Our People

3.2 The people behind our trusts

I invest in all of our investment trusts. Trust managers can really take long-term views without lots of money moving in and out that may force them to make a decision. That can really make a difference over 20 or 30 years.

Simon Crinage, Head of Investment Trusts, J.P. Morgan Asset Management

It’s down to experience. Our investment trusts are managed by experts who have built up vast knowledge. Our team make day-to-day decisions about when to buy and sell investments – as well as ensuring the trust’s strategy is on track.

Our experts have many years’ investment trust experience between them and we have a large team dedicated to investment trusts.

Simon Crinage, Head of J.P. Morgan Investment Trusts, has been in the industry for 33 years. He particularly likes investment trusts for their ability to make long-term decisions without being buffeted by passing market pressures.

Our client directors work across our investment trust portfolio, ensuring the best possible relationship with the independent board of each trust. Every trust has at least one investment manager who decides what to buy and sell.

Each of our trusts has a different focus; some aim to provide income, others to provide growth and some are focused on particular areas of the globe or types of company.

Because the trusts are different, each investment manager has a different area of expertise. All, however, are focused on creating the best possible portfolio to meet the mandate of the trust they run, and getting the best performance for all investors.

Investment trusts are all about the long term. Our experts stay with us. Managers such as Austin Forey and Ayaz Ebrahim have decades of experience in the industry.

As well as our managers, we employ investment specialists to work across our trusts. These include Emily Whiting, who specialises in emerging markets. These specialists, or client portfolio managers, add a further level of expertise.

All these checks and balances are there for one reason: to help performance and returns.
